Faculty Development

Last week we had a great workshop on designing writing assignments and using Moodle. We talked about the role of technology in teaching in general and did some hands on designing.

David Silver visited SMU from University of San Francisco and gave an inspiring talk about the work that he has been doing with students. He described his teaching projects, such as taking students to a farm and then having them write about their experiences through blogging. On a side note, he is also blogging chapters of his book about web studies.

We had a great discussion following David's presentation.

SMU faculty shared their work as well.

Nathalie gave a very helpful talk about questions to ask when designing writing assignments and demonstrated the assignments that she designed in Moodle.

Belinda talked about her experiences and showed us her Moodle courses. She is one of the early adopters of the tool and was experimenting and designing classes with the system before most of us knew what Moodle was.

Scot showed off the many layers of Moodle library resources.

Kathleen has been using another online technology in an innovative way in her French class. She talked about how she does online dictation with VoiceThread.

This was the "act normal" group shot.
