Good for Students Good for Cats

The last two weeks of the semester are usually stressful for everyone. So last week on April 30th, SMU's Office of Campus Life, the Counseling Center, and ASSMU sponsored a brilliant event - Stress Reduction Day. One of my favorite stress reducers were the kittens that were brought in from the pound to be socialized. Anyone could come by and play with the kittens in the student activities building. It is pretty much impossible to remain stressed around playing kittens.

Science Experiments Visualization

Did you ever wish that you had better access to multimedia in teaching life science?

Visualization can improve student understanding and help them reproduce experiments more accurately. These are some of the reasons that the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) was created by leading scientists. It is a peer reviewed, open access, online journal devoted to the publication of biological research in a video format.

Here is one example where a published article includes a video demonstrating an experiment with leeches:
Localized RNAi and Ectopic Gene Expression in the Medicinal Leech

In this screen shot of the video, scientists are extracting leeches from a leech cocoon.
